Checking out Survarium at Gamescom

Survarium - Exclusive - EN

At this year’s Gamescom, we visited Vostok Games at their booth to get some new information on Survarium and were even able to try it out. And we must admit that we a pretty nice gaming experience, the team has definitely managed to capture the post-apocalyptic feel.

The videogame developing company Vostok Games is based in Ukraine and was established in 2012 by seasoned veterans of the industry who had worked on titles such as S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2. They are focusing on their only project Survarium to make it a free-to-play MMO shooter.

We were told by the devs that the game is still in closed beta testing, and that they have big things coming up such as open world which is going to be a big part of the game, wandering around, gathering resources or items, fighting other players, good stuff.

The title already features multiple maps right now, with an abandoned laboratory and the Cologne bridge (Germany) recently released, which was very special considering the Gamescom takes place in Cologne, so a lot of people were there just because they had heard about the Cologne map and wanted to check it out.

The game features an open free-to-play model that enables players to purchase cosmetic items with real money and the customisation depth is actually pretty high. Players can pick decals and place them onto their character wherever they want and there are also several slots for different type of gear, weapons, armours, gloves, helmet, etc. Players can even carry a backpack to increase the number of their slots. However, everything has its price and in this case, it’s speed which is affected by your weight.

The currently available maps feature different mechanics, e.g. gathering batteries for an upcoming storm that may arrive at actually any time, which is totally random each time, bringing along new conditions and weather changes. We also heard about one of the key features of the game, the anomalies, where players need to gear up to resist their effects when getting into them, but they grant special abilities or items.

Apart from the gear, which is a common feature among MMO games, players also have skills in form of talent trees, where points can be spent to enhance the character. The developers also mentioned there are factions you can work for, getting rewards in the process you can then use to buy stuff from those factions.

So the game is progressing at a nice pace and we’re looking forward to seeing it released with all its features.

We also recorded a video of the presentation you can watch right here and now. And in case you’re interested in further details on Survarium, feel free to activate the INFO button below in order to visit our profile.
