GAME SYNOPSIS

In Dawngate players get to choose from 25 different "Shapers" and select from for different roles within the game, each Shaper is able to fill that role without being already bound to it as is common in most MOBAs. This free to play game puts a new spin on customisation and defining your own play style in the MOBA genre with a variety of novel features that sets it apart from its competitors.

THE GAME

Similar to many MOBA games Dawngate tries to put a new spin on a growing genre, primarily the focus is on breaking up the classic “roles” that shapers/heroes/champions are often bound to in other games of this type. Players can choose a character they like, use their abilities and skills, upgrade them using the Spiritstone loadout system and then define which rolled they wish to fill when they join the game, regardless of the character they have chosen. The actual game itself is a 5 vs 5 team based battle with two lanes that intersects a large jungle flanking each Lane, were players must push past towers, minions and players into the enemy base and take down their Guardian NPC.

SHAPERS

With 25 different characters to choose from the game is off to a good start in so far as choice, with each offering a completely different style of play and their own unique skills, stats and abilities.

What is missing from the Shaper is which “role” they typically fill as non-are so built that they can only be useful in one particular role (also and will obviously be more optimised for such a position depending on how the player performs). Instead when joining the game the player can choose which rolled they wish to fill for the game’s duration and they are given appropriate buffs to aid them in that role, gaining “Vim” (which levels them up in game) by successfully performing their role.

Predator - the players that are aggressive in combat and prefer to try and kill other enemy players they will receive vim for taking down or assisting on enemy player kills

Hunter – with the objectives in the jungle allowing a team to turn the tide of battle, the Hunter is skilled at being a jungler, getting bonuses and extra vim when killing jungle monsters

Tactician – the primary lane support helping their teammates they are excellent at harassing and gain them by being in the nearby vicinity when a Lane minions dies or through damaging enemies

Gladiator - the perfect candidate for farming the lane minions, these combatants earned their vim bonus every time they land a killing blow to a minion

THE GAME MAP

The map is very similar to other MOBA games, with two lanes linking the two team bases with a jungle area to the far left and far right and one large central jungle that is filled with all manner of camps and jungle creatures to gain XP and bonuses from. Every Lane has 6 “Bindings”, towers that fire upon enemies’ players and enemy minions, the closer to their base the stronger a Binding becomes making the push into a base gradually more difficult. Once a team breaks through into the base they must fight the enemy Guardian, a large boss NPC that will take the entire team to taking down.

SPIRITSTONES

Players can create their own character loadouts using the Spiritstone system, a 4x4 grid where players can place Spiritstones of different shapes to intersect with each other on the grid like a jigsaw (the most optimized loadout being one that uses every square). Each Spiritstone allows for a different ability and stat increase but must be activated by socketing Sparks into it to activate it; Sparks come in three colours to determine their primary focus: Offense (Green), Defense (Red) and Utility (Blue). Each Spark has its own stats and increases and if a Spiritstone has all the same coloured Sparks in it then it gives an extra added bonus to the player.
