This year's E3 has provided us with some amazing reveals that have got our juices flowing, the annual event is always a pretty exciting time to get on board the hype train and see just what is heading our way in the weeks, months (and in some cases years..) to come.
Sifting through all the game presentations and announcement we are of course focusing on only a handful of reveals that caught our eye, so without further ado here’s our biggest highlights so far:
Kicking off their announcement of the new expansion Knights of the Fallen Empire the guys and gals over at BioWare treated us to an amazing new cinematic (really, their cinematics have got to be some of the best in the business). The cinematic tells a story of the rise of two twin brothers as the proverbial Princes of a new third faction that will be introduced on October 27th when the expansion goes live.
Players can expect a new personal story arc where they play as an Outlander, a Galactic War veteran, and will offer up new worlds, new companions and new cinematic story-arcs in the form of regularly released chapters. Players who buy the expansion will get access to a free Level 60 character to try out the new content that can take them up to the new level 65 cap, but the expansion will be free to all subscribers. As well as the new content the original eight classes will all see their own story lines enhanced to bring something new to both new and old players alike.
ArenaNet announced their first upcoming Heart of Thorns expansion coming to GuildWars 2, which is now live and available for pre-purchase and comes in three different editions: Standard (£34.99/€44.99), Deluxe (£59.99/€74.99) and Ultimate (£79.99/€99.99), all offering different types of in game rewards and perks and includes access to upcoming beta weekends.
The expansion itself will focus on new areas such as the Maguuma Jungle and its new enemies and storylines, a new Mastery System that allows players to explore other options to train their character beyond level 80 as well as Specializations to unlock previously unavailable weapon access and new skills and traits. Accompanying this are new Guild Halls, PVP Stronghold Game Mode and World vs World Borderland map for more massive combat.
The explosive and action-packed shooter MOBA from Microsoft Studios and Motiga, available for Windows 10 and Xbox One, the quirky looking team based MMO has that stylish cartoony Team Fortress 2 look and will see teams battle it out alongside their enormous guardians (giving name to the title).
Whilst the gameplay trailer we saw didn’t provide much of an insight to anything we haven’t already discovered from the team based MOBA, showing us a range of available heroes and the build-up to a battle between two huge Guardians, what they did announce was that players can hope to join the closed beta as early as August 2015!
Taking a page out of SMITE’s book with its third person MOBA, King of Wushu allows players to fight as one of the famous Kung Fu schools adopting 15 Wuxia heroes and really emphasizes the theme and traditional ancient Chinese setting. Players will fight battles and gain Experience to active special power-ups for their characters, able to personalize their heroes and unlock new abilities and attributes.
Developed and published by Snail Games the MOBA follows in the footsteps of its predecessor MMORPG Age of Wushu / Age of Wulin, taking its inspiration and graphical style and implementing. However, the game will be launching first and foremost onto the PlayStation 4 making it one of the first online free to play MOBA to do so, which more than makes it worth a mention.
Bungie announced their own expansion for Destiny; The Taken King, which will be the biggest advancement in the Destiny universe to date adding the first full destination since the games launch and will be available from September 15th. Players can expect all-new campaigns, three new Guardian subclasses, new armor, weapons and a new Raid.
Players will also get the chance to purchase the Legendary Edition which will include all the previous content including Destiny, The Dark Below expansion, House of Wolves expansion and The Taken King; PlayStation gamers will also be given additional content for The Taken King until Fall 2016.
As if the hype for this game wasn’t big enough for this PVP/PVE co-op shooter we were given a ten minute feature of one of the games’ most challenging features; the Dark Zones. Here players head into the abandoned areas where the best loot can be found, in the video we follow a team of three as they go investigating to see what they can uncover, fighting against some of the elite AI mobs in the zone players can recover legendary items… but it isn’t quite as easy as that.
From the video we saw that with their new weapon acquired the fact that it had come from the Dark Zone meant that it was contaminated and needed to be extracted from the area, which means calling down an extraction chopper at a key location. Unfortunately to get this item out of the zone players will have to fight past not just enemy AI but other player teams that will no doubt want to take your new prize from you. The video shows a shootout between three teams where two teams gang up on some rogue aggressors, but instead of splitting the spoils of the fallen attackers our home team turn on their temporary allies to take everything for themselves! The game look amazing and has some exciting features that we simply can’t wait to try out… unfortunately with the feature reveal also came a proposed release date… March 8th 2016….
So those are our best bits so far, let us know what you thought of these games and E3 in general in the comments below!
