Wargaming has today released Update 1.4 for their free-to-play flight combat MMO World of Warplanes in Russia and Europe. North American players will have to wait until tomorrow, June 4, to enjoy the new matchmaking system, graphics and interface improvements, new combat elements, High Definition and Standard client versions and more.
Player are now able to choose between SD and HD client versions, depending on whether they want to use the highest graphics quality settings or not. The HD version is suited for high-performance computers, while the SD version requires less space on the player’s hard disk.
The update moreover introduces Matchmaker 2.0, which guarantees an equal number of flight squads among both teams and also balances the types and tiers of all planes. The new system additionally increases the chance for players to be matched up with similarly tiered planes.
Players will also be able to fight on 2 new maps, "Hidden Airbase" and "Winter War", the former featuring a secret military facility, located in the polar region and surrounded by glacier pathways and being available for planes of tiers V to X, while the latter will task pilots of aircraft of tiers I to V with fighting their foes in a dark and hazardous environment lit up by Northern Lights.
And finally, Update 1.4 also brings 5 new premium Tier VI fighters into the game, each representing the 5 available nations: the Soviet Bell P-39Q-15 Airacobra fighter, German Supermarine Spitfire V DB 605, British North American Mustang Mk.I, Japanese Kawasaki Ki-88, and the American Grumman XP-50 heavy fighter.
