How Free-to-Play is Heroes & Generals?

Heroes and Generals - F2PMeter headlogo - EN

Here there is our latest F2Pmeter instalment, which is putting Heroes & Generals to this popular free-to-play-ness test. Set during the 2nd World War, this pretty interesting and perhaps underestimated first-person shooter/ strategy MMO game provides players with massive battlefields to fight on as they engage in objective- and vehicle-based gameplay.

The MMO is undoubtedly extremely fun but what about its free-to-play-ness? Is it playable for absolutely free or are players forced to take out their wallets instead in order to enjoy the game to the full? Let’s be remembered of the fact that our testing candidates begin with a 100% of free-to-play-ness, a value that is open to changes depending on how our questions have to be answered.

So here we go then!

EN - Question 1

No. Designed from the scratch with an F2P business model in mind, Heroes & Generals allows players to register an account for free in order to begin playing without being charged.

EN - Question 2

Yes (optional) – -15%. The game's free-to-play option is added with a Veteran status available for purchase (with a duration of 24 hours, 30 or 90 days), which provides paying users with boosts to currency and EXP gains as well as additional slots for an extra combat badge and weapon.

EN - Question 3

No. As of now, all updates and expansions have been released free of charge and there's no reason to suppose that this might change with future releases.

EN - Question 4

Yes – -5%. Players are able to purchase in-game Gold with real-world cash in order to get access to nearly everything, including earlier access to features and items that are also available to non-paying members of the community through regular in-game currency and simply playing the game.

EN - Question 5

Yes (but...) – -5%. While the ability to have earlier access to specific gear and weapons doesn't necessarily count as an advantage, additional inventory slots and combat badges actually do grant direct advantages over F2P players, even though it’s just a smaller one.

EN - Question 6

No. For the time being, there aren't any options for customising the user interface that non-paying players would be excluded from.

EN - Question 7

Yes. The game doesn't offer any other than the human race and provides everyone with free access to all available factions. Each of the classes can be unlocked through either normal in-game currency or real cash. The same applies to the game’s Generals portion, which also becomes accessible through just playing the game or paying premium currency.

EN - Question 8

No. Heroes & Generals doesn't feature an auction-house and trade between players simply doesn't take place.

EN - Question 9

Yes – -10%. There's no difference in the amount of equipment points that F2P and Veteran players are provided with in order to set up their loudout, but Veterans are granted an additional weapon slot as well as an extra slot for combat badges.

EN - Question 10

Yes. All players have free access to the entirety of map available for play in Heroes & Generals.

EN - Question 11

No. The Generals portion in Heroes & Generals is available to everyone either through spending the premium currency Gold or unlocking it by just playing the game and paying with regular in-game currency, even though those who choose to spend Gold on it admittedly are granted access straight when starting out in the game, which is much earlier in comparison to non-paying users.

EN - Question 12

Yes – +10%. All in all, Heroes and Generals appears to be enjoyable and absolutely playable without paying anything, despite of Veterans getting a few boosters and advantages or the option to purchase immediate access to the Generals part. It will simply take F2P users a bit longer to get access to features and content in comparison to their paying comrades.
