We’re heading over to Warframe for some space ninja action in Digital Extreme’s fast paced action shooter for our newest “Things We Love About… Warframe” feature, in which players get to play as futuristic Tenno warriors; newly awoken from their deep sleep these super soldiers are equipped with powerful Warframes that allow them to accomplish superhuman feats to go up against their enemies and each other. With strong elements of Co-Op 4 man PVE and some PVP gameplay the game has a lot to offer anyone who loves action shooters, with its impressive graphics and intense combat, and is all completely free to play. So what do we love the most about Warframe, well keep reading and you’ll find out…
- Really Strong Co-Op Content - Fighting alongside other players has never been so fun. Initially released without plans for PVP the core of the game was always going to be co-op, the emergent storyline and lore, the PVE focused abilities and skills, it’s easy to see why it took a while for PVP to come out. However, in that time Warframe’s PVE was really fine-tuned and for most perfected, the combat is truly exciting and action packed with explosive attacks, freestyle aerial acrobatics and accompanied by pretty amazing graphics. Whilst the AI isn’t always the most challenging there are plenty of times where you really feel the payoff of a team working with tactics and strategy, even if very few people use the in game voice chat. The pace of maps is what you make of it, trying to complete every sub objective and picking up every Sydnicate point or just heading straight for the core objective; whichever road you take it’s fun nonetheless.
- That It Reminds Us Of... - The game has a familiarity about it of other games we love. Hear us out as it’s actually quite common when you hear people talking about Warframe, that it reminds them of or “it’s like X and Y had a baby and that baby was names Warframe”. Whether the game has qualities of Mass Effect, Halo, Jedi Academy, Destiny, there’s never one thing we can put our finger on but it has a quality that makes us nod with approval and a weird nostalgia that this is a game we really wanted to play. The “Space Ninja” element can definitely fit into a lot of games (I mean Jedi are pretty much Space Ninja) but it’s not just the theme or setting, it’s not just the gameplay and mechanics, it’s not just the graphics and world design… it’s a little bit of everything that when put together makes something great.
- The Variety of Warframes - There’s a lot of choice on what to play. Most shooters these days have around half a dozen characters/ classes / roles you can choose in the game, hell most MMORPGs top out around 8 characters and then maybe offer two specializations each; Warframes currently has TWENTY THREE available Warframes to choose from, each Warframe acting as its own class that you can switch between, providing unique abilities and skills and overall playstyle. For an FPS shooter that number is pretty much unprecedented and whilst there’s a little crossover here and there, for the most part each character plays (or should be played) very differently. The abilities range quite a lot, but some are so well put together and flashy, particularly those accompanied with awesome effects such as Frost’ ice attacks and Volt’ lightning powers. Furthermore the Warframes can all be unlocked with in game currency instead of being put behind a cash only wall (though players can pay real cash if they wish).
- Conclave PVP - It’s pretty fun and exciting. Don’t get us wrong... there’s a lot that’s still wrong with the PVP; Warframe balancing issues (some Warframes are so OP in PVP) and only three available game modes with Annihilation (Deathmatch), Team Annihilation (Team Deathmatch) and Cephalon Capture (Capture the Flag) being the primary issues. That said the PVP is actually really fun and retains its breakneck speed and adrenaline rush captured by the PVE aspect, more importantly they have a gear/mod based matchmaking system that takes into account a Warframes general mod level as opposed to a players account/character level; this means that you can buy all your cool stuff with real cash and then smash up a load of low level newbies when you just start out. There’s PLENTY of MMOs that lack such a basic feature as to use gear based matchmaking so we’re glad to see Warframe got this right. Included with this is that weapons have their own unique PVP stats that differ from their PVE stats, at least a step in the right direction for general balancing, and the weapon attack qualities are removed (no procs, no critical hits) and instead focus on multiplier damage on headshots rewarding skill shots.
- Mods - There’s a lot of choice to personalize your gear. Players are able to mod their character extensively, acquiring any of the 550+ mods available in the game, each one represented by its own card, and attached to a Warframe or weapon to increase stats and give extra utility. It’s a really simple system but the extensive list is what truly makes it shine and offers up so much personal freedom to really get the most out of your character. This is only further added to with the 23 available Warframes that provides an even greater element of strategy and theory crafting when it comes to which mod builds are best for which characters,
These are some of the things that we love about Warframe, but what do you think? What do you love about this game? Would you add anything else to the list? We await your opinions! Let us know!!!!!
