For this week’s F2PMeter we’re taking a look at near future first person shooter Dirty Bomb from Nexon, battling across the abandoned streets of London players step into the role of hired mercs in objective based team PVP battles. With a variety of Mercs to choose from, each with their own skills and playstyle, and a handful of fun, action packed maps, the game has some extremely enjoyable gameplay. However, the game claims to be free to play and so we’ll go through our list, starting at 100% F2P and remove points along the way!

'No'
The game is completely free to download and play.
Does it have monthly subscription fee?
'No'
There are no subscription options in the game.
Do you have to pay for expansions and/or DLC packs?
'No'
There are no DLC or expansions for the game.
Are there micro-transactions? Can you buy stuff in-game with real money?
'Yes' -5%
The game has an in-game gold currency that is earned by playing games, averaging around 100 gold per game, which is used for buying Mercs (4000cr) and basic cases that give loadout cards (1000cr) that are equipped to Mercs (players aren’t able to choose their own weapons and can only use weapons from a loadout card). Players can buy boosters to increase the amount of gold they receive per game, or buy Elite Cases to get a chance at getting a higher quality loadout card (which has more perks assigned to it), or players can spend $10 to purchase Mercs that they don’t have.
Do micro-transactions give advantages in any way?
'No' (but…) -5%
The main benefit is being able to get access to a full roster of mercs and better loadouts more quickly, building up in-game currency can take a lot of time, so spending cash bypasses that. However, when it comes to buying new Loadouts from the Elite cases, the cards that you get are completely random, this means you may get a high quality card but it could be with weapons you don’t like and for a Merc that you don’t like playing with or don’t even own.
Is fully UI customization restricted?
'No'
There are no restrictions for UI.
Does the game give access to all available classes and races?
'No' -15%
Players must spend in game currency or real cash to open up new Mercenaries
Does it have any limitations to the use of the 'Auction House' (in-game market)?
'No'
There is no Auction House or in-game trading.
Are inventory slots and/or personal bank slots limited in any way?
'No'
There are no slots or inventory options in the game.
Can you access all the zones and dungeons?
'Yes'
All maps are accessible in the game and all modes/objectives can be access with the free to play accounts.
Is High-end Content (PvP or PvE raids) restricted?
'No'
There is no High-end content.
Can you fully enjoy the game without paying a single 'penny'?
'Yes' (but...)
Whilst the game itself is fun the amount of time players will have to spend in game earning in-game currency is pretty excruciating; averaging 100cr per game (which has a countdown timer from 8 mins) if you do relatively well. Opening cases to get new loadouts to determine what weapons you can use with a character (again, ones that you might not want) costs currency and you have an extremely slim chance of getting a Silver, Gold or Cobalt card, with the majority being the bog standard Lead with one ability perk. Converting four Lead creates an Iron card (2 ability perks) and four Iron for a Bronze (3 ability perks). To simply CRAFT a Bronze card starting out with Lead would require 9 Lead Cards, 1000cr per card, at best with loading times would take around 1hr 30 of play time to get one Card, plus there is a 2000cr cost for the crafting process … and the loadout and perks you get is random and ultimately something you might not want. Alternatively you can purchase cards with real cash. Whilst the gameplay is enjoyable the progression can be extremely frustrating for free to play accounts.
