Pirate Storm is a free to play browser-based MMO from Bigpoint where players get to sail the seven seas seeking out treasure and glory as the captain of their own pirate ship. Engage ins daring battles across the ocean with AI controlled enemies and real live players, sail from island to island o seek out adventure and become the most feared and respected pirate lord on the ocean.

The game is free to play and so we’re throwing it through the F2P-Meter to see whether the game is free, or whether at the end it feels like we’ve been plundered by pirate scum.



The game is completely free to play through web browser and requires no download or purchase.



There are optional subscriptions, but players do not have to have them in order to play the game, these packs come in Bronze, Silver or Gold variations which gives purchasers extra options such as free seals, ammo, XP boosts, quicker repair times and more.



There are currently no purchasable expansions or DLC, any patches and updates are provided for free as part of the game.



Players can buy a variety of items or purchasing currency through the Diamond premium currency, there are various diamond packages that players can buy ranging from a few dollars to over a hundred



There are lots of purchasable items that give benefits, either acquired through diamonds or through gold (which can also be purchased) including the best ships, ammo, subscriptions that give extra perks.



There are no UI customization options.



There are no classes in the game, instead players directly control pirate ships which they can purchase; three ships can be bought with standard gold currency, but the biggest ships in the game (Frigate and Large Frigate) cost Diamonds. Diamonds can be earned in game but unless players are going to dedicate their time to farming them it can take a while to acquire what you need.



Technically it does have limitations, but these are based on your level (required level 10) and has nothing to do with being a subscription or free account.



Bank size is not limited in any way, though storage is based on the size/type of ship you have access to, and so by proxy the Premium ships which are the biggest ships have bigger storage, this is more a feature of the game than a free account restriction.



All areas can be accessed by free accounts.



PvP and PvE is all accessible regardless of whether you have spent any money on the game.



The game is truly designed to be pay-to-win at the top competitive levels, whilst there’s no limitations on players necessarily that would stop them acquiring things through gameplay that paying players have bought, the time it takes to do this and stay competitive is unrealistic. Depending on what you are wanting from the game will determine how fun it is without spending any cash.
