Novaquark Announces Sandbox Dual Universe
Paris-based studio Novaquark has just announced a new sandbox sci-fi MMORPG currently in development: Dual Universe. This new title revolves about exploration, mining, politics and crafting, and it will be set within a single-shard universe (same server, no instances or zones) in which players will be able to build anything they want with no size restrictions, from cities to giant space stations. Everything will be player-made.
J.C. Baillie says: “I am a huge fan of games like Eve Online and Space Engineers. I took inspiration from such games to imagine what could be the future of the MMO experience: a continuous world with planets, huge building possibilities, social and political aspects, but without the boundaries that so often restrict the gameplay. This idea needs a lot of tech and emergent game design that is not so far from AI and other fields I’m familiar with. So, I got a first prototype working back in 2014, and Novaquark was born soon after.”
Dual Universe uses 25cm precision voxel technology so players can modify the environment or build things, and the 64bit Planetary Engine to provide with smooth transitions from planet surfaces through atmosphere and into space. There will be no limits to how far the player can travel.
The alpha version is scheduled at the beginning of 2017, so stay tuned for more information. Meanwhile, check out some screenshots:
