Supremacy 1914 is a free to play strategy MMO where players are dropped into the beginning of World War One as a leader of their own nation, able to reshape the war and carve out a new world where they rise to the top. With combat, diplomacy, trade and espionage the game is a popular, if not slightly older, title; but how free to play is it? We’ll put the game through our F2P Meter, ask a series of questions and find out just how free to play the game truly is!
No. The game is completely free to play.
No. Whilst the game has no compulsory subscription to play, players can purchase a premium membership subscription for the “High Command”, which provides a variety of perks such as private chat, rally points, build queues, shared intelligence and more.
No. All the games content is provided for free.
Yes – -5%. Players are able to purchase Goldmarks premium currency by spending real cash, with this there are various benefits that can be purchased in game for the duration of a match. Goldmarks can also be earned by watching ads, videos and other out of game actions.
Yes (but...) – -10%. Players can rush construction on buildings, units and acquire resources all of which would typically take hours and even days to acquire; for those players who want to sink enough money in the game to win then they can definitely buy a strong advantage. The game does offer “No Gold” matches as an option to players.
No. There are no UI customization options.
Yes. The game doesn’t have any races or classes. Players are all randomly assigned a nation to lead, which provides them with specific territories and starting resources which they control; some nations are considered to be better starting positions than others.
No. There are no limitations when using these systems (trading or the Stock Exchange).
No. Free to play accounts do not see any inventory restrictions.
Yes. All areas of the game are fully accessible.
No (but...) – -10%. The game has a “Gold Round” option that costs 5000 Goldmarks to play, here players have more options when setting up a game with additional features and units, such as Elite AI, Victory Conditions, Team Mode and more. Premium “High Command” members can play/start these Gold Rounds for free.
Yes (but...) – +10%. As the setup of the game provides a slow advancement, with construction, movement and various other actions; the ability to speed these up by spending cash/Goldmarks does provide a major advantage to those players that do. On a match scale it doesn’t necessarily have that much of an impact, as multiple players working together can still overpower someone who simply spends a lot of Goldmarks, but on a smaller scale it’s difficult to keep up with an aggressive neighbour who spends cash on everything. Gold spending has almost become second nature in the game now and the majority of competitive players will spend it.
