Atari has announced plans to bring Asteroids: Outpost back to PC, which counts among the most iconic titles within the company's portfolio. For the upcoming launch, the classic Asteroids game is reinvented as a sandbox-styled open-world survival experience allowing players to harvest resources in order to build and defend their base as they make their fortune.
"We're looking forward to ushering the game into today’s digital gaming era," told Atari CEO Fred Chesnais. "We're paying homage to the original Asteroids by incorporating classic features such as asteroid blasting capabilities, while introducing a completely new premise and gameplay. Asteroids: Outpost will appeal to both fans of the classic Asteroids as well as enthusiasts of immersive survival games and expansive MMOs."
Asteroids: Outpost thrusts players in to the distant future where they will be faced with the challenges the harsh deep space environment poses as they explore an enormous asteroid, collect resources, scavenge for ore, craft equipment and expand their territory while constructing greatly customisable bases. The challenging multiplayer gameplay will also task them with fending off rival players and forging alliances.
