A new free-to-play sci-fi MOBA title has seen the light of day. Bigpoint has just communicated plans to launch of Shards of War, which will offer a new twist on the classic MOBA game mode. The game combines the typical MOBA strategy with the pace and WASD style controls of top-down shooters to create a unique PvP experience that delivers fast-paced action as well as tactical depth.
In Shards of War, 2 teams made up of 5 players each are pitted against one another in matches that only grant 20 minutes fighting time to dominate the opponent team and obliterate their headquarters. When the game launches, players will be able to pick from 10 unique sentinels: Warhead, Cobra, Gemini, Striker, Blitz, Rhino, Vulcan, Valkyrie, Bulwark and Flatline. Each of them is expert in their field: tank, attacke or support.
Both teams will try to conquer and defend 3 different paths (lanes) in order to complete the objective of destroying the opponent headquarters. Each team will be helped them in their mission by A.I.-controlled drones, which are shipped out on a regular basis by the headquarters to provide assistance. Both teams may also take advantage of the opportunity to seize neutral drones in the map’s central zone.
Teams will earn experience points for killing enemy players, destroying enemy drones and taking down defensive towers. These points can be used by each team member to unlock valuable items that can then be taken into each match and equipped during the battle (Loadout system).
After every completed mission, players will be rewarded with treasure chests which will contain different materials of various rarity degrees, which can be used in Shards of War’s crafting area to create items or upgrade existing items to stronger versions.
By levelling up their own account, players will unlock opportunities to enhance their character and activate stronger items.
