With today's launch of the Alcatraz update, Trion Worlds introduce a new expedition feature to Defiance. Players will moreover benefit from new items and outfits, new weapons, a new 6,000 EGO rating cap as well as Cyber Rigs, a new sort of customisable implants.

While the 3rd season of the TV show only debuts this summer, the famous prison island "The Rock" is already available in the MMO, becoming a new hope given the fallout of the East Coast. Alcatraz now acts as a base and staging point for progressive co-op raids called Expeditions where powerful enemies await which promise increasing rewards. Players will have to defeat them in order to unlock various rounds and have their skills put to an ultimate test. Difficulty and rewards scale with the players' EGO rating.

The update furthermore introduces Cyber Rigs capable of augmenting the character's natural performance and abilities, since this new sort of implants is directly connected to their nervous system. There are 16 cyber chips available to players in order to benefit from special perks.
