At GamesCom we checked in with the folks over at InnoGames and spoke with PR Manager Fabio Lo Zito about the state of the company and what was new for their various titles, in particular we were keen to hear about Forge of Empires. As it stands the company is currently heavily focusing on bringing all their titles to cross platform, making them available on browser, tablet and mobile so players can access them with a single account no matter where they are; titles such as Elvenar, Grepolis, Tribal Wars 2  or The West. Forge of Empires is among them and we got a sneak look at how the new iOS version looked, clearly the team has been hard at work, and that’s not surprising as Forge of Empire is by far the most popular game according to Zito and takes up the bulk of the companies development growing out of an original team of 15 to an entire group of 60 developers.

With our sneak look we were able to check out the newest update which is to be released in the next month or two; the Future Era. For those unfamiliar with Forge of Empires the game is a city building F2P MMO where players work together (and against each other) to gather up resources, construct numerous buildings, train up huge armies and then can fight and trade with each other. Players start out in mud huts in an early tribal Stone Age and will progress through the game and its different eras, with a reported two and a half years’ worth of content to explore; the Future era is the newest edition, the fourteenth era in total, and said to be the final era. We took a look at the game and the general look and overall feel of the new future cities is pretty spectacular, a step away from the golds and browns and industrial look the cities take on the form of a green, vibrant and glassy eutopia adding in all types of new units, buildings and wonders.

As this is to be the last era we were of course intrigues with what the plans for the future were (or beyond the Future I guess that would be) and interestingly Zito was quite forthcoming with plans letting us know that the team are currently playing around with the idea of having Colony planets that players can settle and build up their own second city, though this is far from official or definite. However, was seemed to be a little more concrete and something we’ll almost definitely be seeing is the introduction of Guild and Multiplayer cities, allowing players to finally work together to collaborate on a communal city and adding a much greater social achievement aspect to the game.
