Drakensang is a free to play browser RPG published by Bigpoint, in this dark fantasy themed title players will experience a grim setting where they must battle their way through challenging PVE content, earn items of power and challenging rival players in PVP. The game is free to play, but after going through our F2P Meter we’ll see just how free it really is.


 


Players can download a mini client for Drakensang for free or play it directly through their web browser.

 

 


The core game is free to play however there is a Premium Account subscription model available that grants a variety of boosts and benefits, a unique NPC trader and other perks, though does not add additional core content. Some of the perks do provide premium only content, such as Mystic Cubes, which drop from monsters and can contain legendary, exclusive gear.

 

 


Expansions are provided for free, which add new content, areas, and features to the game. There are currently no DLC packs available.

 

 


Players can grind for the in game currency “Andermant” which is used for purchasing almost everything in the game, alternatively they can spend real money to buy packages of Andermant with more discount savings the more money spent.

 

 


Drankensang does become quite gear dependent later in the game and to stay competitive players will typically need to pay money to stay ahead, the amount of Andermant needed cannot realistically be acquired just through F2P gameplay.

 

 


There are no UI customization options.

 

 


The four main classes and their respective races are all accessible at character creation for free to play accounts.

 

 


Players can access the market as normal.

 

 


Premium accounts gain an additional 28 slots to their inventory and can also access their locker (bank) can be accessed from any location instead of just the locker NPCs.

 

 


There are no areas restricted to F2P accounts.

 

 


All end game content can be accessed freely by free accounts.

 

 


The game is pretty enjoyable and has a ton of content for new players coming to it for the first time, however, as ever with free to play games the issue of spending comes into play when players want to be competitive in PVP and it is here where free accounts will have to start spending money if they wish to get gear which can keep them competitive. For a casual gamer who likes playing with friends and enjoying the RPG content then Drakensang has a lot to offer.
