A little while back NCSoft’s sci-fantasy themed MMORPG Wildstar went free to play, and so in light of this we’re heading back to the game and putting it through our patent pending F2P-Meter to determine just how free we really think it is. The game itself is a huge feature packed MMORPG where players can battle it out as the Dominion or the Exiles fighting for control of the planet Nexus and trying to discover and recover its secrets.


 


You are able to download the game and play all the core content that the game has to offer, there are minor restrictions on some of these features (such as a reduced number of auction house active buy bids, or earning currency at a slower rate) as well as perks for “Signature” accounts such as having access to the Public Test Realm, Priority Queueing, earning extra Reputation, and more..

 

 


The subscription model converts your account to a Signature account, granting more perks and fewer restrictions (as mentioned above) but it is an entirely optional subscription. Alternatively players can acquire an in game item called C.R.E.D.D. through playing or by purchasing it with real cash, it is tradeable with other players and can be sold for in game currency or used as game time for a Signature account.

 

 


Whilst the game gives players content patches/expansion for free as part of the ongoing content updates, there are available to purchase DLC packs that give players a variety of rewards including C.R.E.D.D., Signature status, mounts, clothing items and lots of other accessories.

 

 


Players can earn Cosmic Points, which is a form of alternate experience, which is accrued by making cash transactions, applying C.R.E.D.D. to your account to acquire Signature time or spending NCoins (NC Softs primary cash shop currency). The higher your Cosmic Points score the more benefits you have accessible to you to purchase.

 

 


The microtransactions mostly offer quality of life additions to your account such as improved gathering rates, auction house bids, as well as predominantly aesthetic items such as mounts and pets. Many of the items available through the Cosmic Points are all available to Signature accounts, and allow players to pick certain key elements of those items a la carte..

 

 


There are no restrictions to the UI.

 

 


All races, classes and paths are available from both factions and players can get them to max level.

 

 


There are no limitations, but players who are Patrons get discounts on Sale Fees and do not have item registration fees, which free to play/non-Patrons do have, as well as this Patrons can access the Auction House from anywhere.

 

 


Free to play accounts have the same inventory/bank space as Signature accounts.

 

 


All content and areas in the game are available to explore and play in.

 

 


Players can PVP and raid regardless of their account type.

 

 


The restrictions for free to play accounts that are alleviated with Signature accounts are more to do with quality of life and aesthetics than anything major in the game, all the main content is still available and enjoyable.
