In SMITE, players battle in team based matches in a themed MOBA where you can play as various Gods and Goddesses from the different mythologies, historical pantheons and religions from around the world. Each deity has their own unique skills and powers to utilize in battle, fighting across different maps with their own game modes in what has come to be known as the Playground of the Gods!
The Good
- 3rd Person Camera – The game steps away from traditional isometric viewpoint MOBA and instead combines MOBA and third person shooters using a behind the character camera angle, making rear attacks and vision more strategic
- Five Modes – The game has five different game modes to play including Conquest, Joust, Assault, Siege and Arena, every mode has a unique map and subtle mini objective
- Updates Every Fortnight – New content is added by the developers every fortnight, which typically includes new icons, bundles and skins
- Currently 69 Gods – There are 69 available gods in the game, with new deities added around every month
- Power Scaling – As players level up they will scale in power where minions become less threatening and less important to the game, and it is the players that become more deadly and decide who wins the game
- Skillshot – Most of the abilities in the game require aiming and exact positioning to hit your target, making them skillshots and increases the complexity and required skill of combat
The Bad
- Only One Main Map – Conquest is the primary game mode that is played, unfortunately it only has one map available to it, playing on the same map over and over can get extremely boring
- No Jesus – The game doesn’t have Jesus/Yahweh/God as a playable deity, due to the controversy it may cause, but the game has deities from other practiced religions (such as Hinduism), which is a little hypocritical
- Joust Mode – As the game is focused on 5v5, with Gods and Goddesses balanced for that, it means than in 1v1 Joust mode some deity are extremely overpowered and are almost guaranteed picks, whereas other just aren’t particularly viable for 1v1 battles
- Poor Matchmaking – The game regularly matches players up in a team with players much lower MMR than they are, or against enemies with much higher MMR, which makes some frustrating balancing issues
- High Skill Curve – As the game focuses on skillshots, this means players actually need a little extra skill and can’t rely on tab targeting, which can put off a lot of players
