Good and Bad Things About Planetside 2
In Planetside 2 players can join one of three different rival factions: Terran Republic, New Conglomerate or the Vanu Sovereignty in a territory battle across four continents on the distant planet Auraxis. There are numerous classes, ground and air vehicles to control in a constant PVP focused air v armor v infantry war.
The Good
• 6 Classes – Players are able to switch between the six unique classes (Heavy Infantry, Light Infantry, Max, Combat Medic, Engineer and Infiltrator) at a terminal, levelling each class independently on the same character
• Three Factions – Three factions locked in permanent warfare, each has their own unique buffs and traits to the different classes, vehicles and weaponry and battles to take control of the planet
• Air v Armor v Infantry – Players can jump in and out of vehicles as their infantry classes, with tanks, fighter planes, APCs and more and all can fight each other on the same maps instead of separating air, armor and infantry combat into different battles
• Constructing – A new mineral can now be harvested by ANT vehicles and used to build mobile defenses and bases including walls, defensive turrets, shields and more
• Lots of Customization – Every class and vehicle can be customized in numerous ways by earning Certifications, allowing players to improve their character and gear them towards a playstyle they prefer
• Awesome Terrain – Spanning snowy landscapes, deserts, jungles and forests players can utilize terrain and cover and also experience a day and night cycle, all of which effect vision as they battle across huge building facilities
• Small Skirmishes & Massive Combat – Players can experience smaller group skirmishes taking minor outposts, or huge epic battles for hours as hundreds of players assemble to battle against each other like a true war
The Bad
• Unbalanced Players – As every player fights in the same map, those players who have players longer will have significantly better gear will always have the advantage over new players dropped into the fray and being insta-killed by them frequently can be very frustrating
• Bad Driving Skills – Being crushed by a friendly tank driver and killed because they can’t drive is a surprisingly common occurrence, particularly after large battles when huge tank divisions are driving to the next fight
• Extremely Team Dependent – Whilst smaller skirmishes are available it does feel very hard to play, and sometimes a little boring, if you are not with the large group with lots of friendlies and enemies to fight with and alongside
• Repetitive Gameplay – Realistically the game is one never ending Team Death Match focusing on point capture, sometimes it can feel like the experience is very similar to the last battles you have just had
• Acquiring Certifications Can Be a Grind – Players earn XP and Certs when completing map objectives and getting kills, if you don’t pay cash for certs then getting them can take a very long time before you are competitively geared up to last in the battles
• Off Peak Gameplay – During the less social hours the game can really suffer due to the sheers size of the open world, with players spread across four massive continents it can feel very empty
