Goodgame Empire is a free to play browser RTS from developers Goodame where players get to rule over their own fortified town, built it up, gather resources, raise an army and compete with other players in PVP to earn the highest rank on their server and earn rewards for doing so.

The game is free to play but as we send it through the F2PMeter, asking a series of questions, we’ll deduct points to see just how free to play the game is:

Goodgame Empire is completely free to play and can be played through your internet browser.



There are no available subscriptions in the game.



Currently there are no expansions or DLC content, all patches and updates are provided for free as part of the game.



It is possible for players can purchase Rubies, which are the premium currency in the game that can be bought with real cash, however, it can also be earned in game through various means albeit at a much slower pace.



Rubies give the advantage in many ways as they can be used to help speed up production on various buildings and units, also certain buildings, tools and units can be purchased with Rubies only instead of the other in-game currencies and resources. Players have the chance to buy a Ruby Mine pre-level twenty five for 30k rubies, which will yield 250 Rubies every day for 360 days (netting 60k Rubies profit). Whilst Rubies can be acquired simply by playing, being able to buy Rubies gives players a major advantage due to the ease and speed at which they can then buy these different perks and boosts.



There are no customization options with the UI.



There are no race or class choices within the game.



The Market building lets players transport resources between cities and outposts, either those belonging to the player or to other players as well, this building only has a level pre-requisite but otherwise is free to access.



Storehouse buildings can be used by players to store all types of resources and are accessible for free by players, but have resource costs and level restrictions to being built.



There aren’t any restrictions in terms of features and locations that players can access.



There are no restrictions to any PVP or PVE endgame content.



Whilst Rubies can most definitely give a big advantage to players, they can be earned in some measure by active players, so the game definitely sits comfortably as a free to play title. If players want to be the best and put in less time and effort then they will no doubt need to spend some cash to keep up with more active players, but there is no major pay to win advantage.
