Things We Love About World of Warships

World of Warships - news

World of Warships is a free to play WW2 naval combat simulator from Wargaming, following on from the gameplay of its previous titles World of Tanks and World of Warplanes, players can now take to the oceans and battle for supremacy as, and against, the different dominant nations of World War 2. The game has stunning graphics and a more unique gameplay style for a shooter, whilst it has its own issues there is a lot of great stuff to be experienced in WoWS.

Slow Pace of Combat
The pace of combat is more methodical and focuses on planned strategy. Whilst we do enjoy the fast paced nature of FPS games and other shooters, World of Warships offers a nice change of pace from the typical shooter MMO. Movement of your ships is slow and calculated, every turn takes time, your guns rotating takes time, your shots need to be lead ahead of moving targets so that they sail into them; it all requires forward thinking and planning ahead. Whilst the pace isn’t for everyone and the very act of sailing across the sea to actually get into an engagement can take a while, we love that it offers something different to other titles and so does stand itself out from the crowd.

Action Packed Battles
Engagements are extremely exciting. Whilst the speed of combat can at times seem slow once the fights start to break out it does require a lot of quick thinking and reacting; sailing round a bend and finding yourself suddenly ambushed by half a dozen ships is terrifying as it’s not as simple as quickly turning around to get away. In the middle of battle you have to deal with engines being destroyed, fires on your ship, all whilst trying to pepper the enemy and get into cover. It has a perfect balance of slow and methodical long ranged engagements and full on frantic firefights.

Ships Have Distinctive Playstyles
In comparison to World of Tanks the vehicle roles are more prominent. Whilst World of Tanks is equally as fun, just in a different way, the problem with it sometimes is that the Tier of the tank far outweighed the type of tank (destroyer, heavy, medium or light) and low Tier simply meant being frustratingly ineffective at times. In contrast the classes in World of Warships (Cruisers, Destroyers, Battleships and Aircraft Carriers) have much more distinctive styles of play and with that players can make a larger impact in a battle and never feel they are heavily outmatched providing they use strategy and positioning.

Gun Control
Players can control multiple guns at once. With the age of steel and huge naval battles it wouldn’t make sense to only be able to fire one gun when your boat can have a dozen gun turrets on it. The primary cursor aiming controls your main gun cannon, aiming quickly with your cursor still requires your turret to rotate and get the shot lined up. Similarly all the turrets on your ship can be aimed by choosing a target, those guns that have a line of sight can fire, e.g. a ship on your portside can only be attacked by your portside guns and not your starboard side positioned guns. Once again this adds to positioning not just to dodge enemy attacks, but ensure that you can line up as many guns as possible to take out your enemy.

Huge Variation of Ships
There are so many classes and nation’s ships to choose from. Broken down into the main nation’s naval fleets that dominated the seas in WW2, players who are enthusiasts of the ships of that period will be in awe at the number of playable ships there are, including some of the most famous that fought in the conflict. Each ship has been designed in detail and can be customized for both mechanical and visual changes to the model, giving a realistic representation of what the ships looked like.

These are some of the things that we love about World of Warships, but what do you think? What do you love about this game? Would you add anything else to the list? We await your opinions! Let us know!!!!!
