With today’s 1.41 update, Gaijin Entertainment has implemented the Ground Forces Expansion into their free-to-play flight combat MMO War Thunder. PC gamers now also have access to several tanks and other ground vehicles while the release for PS4 is scheduled for the near future.

In addition to aircrafts, combatants now may also choose from dozens of light, medium and heavy tanks, as well as self-propelled artillery and anti-air guns from the USSR and Germany, with vehicles from additional nations to be added later on.

"Our goal from the beginning with War Thunder was to create a game that allows players to safely experience the perils of a full scale world war", said Anton Yudintsev, CEO of Gaijin Entertainment. "The rumble you hear in the distance, is the sound of many of our six million players launching their earth shaking attacks using heavily armored ground forces. Players who prefer aerial battles better keep one eye in the air and one eye on the ground because Ground Forces Expansion has launched!"

For the moment, players are able to engage in combat and fight alongside player-controlled planes as well as AI allies in some cases with their ground forces in Realistic and Simulation game modes. Once a sufficient number of players has reached high levels with their ground forces, Combined Arms will be enabled. However, this mode can be tried in Custom Battles already.
